The Peru sculptures and
Marcahuasi galleries have shown how
existing geological features have been used to make images, sculptures, that
portray some message, probably of a religious kind.
The Marcahuasi pictures have revealed, besides their specific images, the method that
has been used to get these results. With this knowledge in hand, it is much
more easy to discover more images at places one initially would not look for
them, and thus not find them. Below is a collection of images discovered since that
time at the best known Peruvian site: Machu Picchu. One reason they have not
been found may be that in present days these images are not very visible in
the summer when the mountains are covered by green, and most of the visitors
are around.
It is likely that these images are an important part of the mystery people feel when visiting Machu Picchu, even when not conscious of their presence. It is also probable that the Inca's, who build the city, had a lot of awe for and draw inspiration from these images. Since the images at Marcahuasi and Ollantaytambo give the impression of being older than the Inca civilization, one can ask the question if the images at Machu Picchu are also wholly or partly from an older civilization. This is addressed in the next gallery.
