PERU STONE CONSTRUCTIONS

Below is a gallery of stone constructions from other well-known sites in Peru besides Machu Picchu, like Sacsayhuaman, Ollantaytambo, and Quenko. A comparison of the Machu Picchu gallery with the one below clearly shows some overall differences: the Machu Picchu images show a considerable amount of consistency, they look much more alike than the images below. Partly this is because the images below are from different sites (most of them are from tourist sites; pictures 2, 10, 12, 14, 18, 19, 20, 21 & 22 are from the site Ancient walls by Richard Nesbit). But it is also clear that the constructions below are more raw, and not just because the stone building blocks are much more massive that those in Machu Picchu.

Analysis

What is remarkable about the constructions at these sites is the combination of massivity and precision. It is possible to move huge masses given enough manpower, and it is possible to achieve great precision in putting things together given enough time. However, any suggestions about achieving the kind of precision reached with some of the constructions above, fails on the combination of both: with all imagination one can muster, one cannot imagine how one would remove and replace the huge blocks in order to adjust their surfaces to their neighbour in order to get the precision shown, because this trial and error method requires the process of removing and replacing a number of times that is in the dozens (if you do not have the experience, for example from building model planes or furnature restauration, try it yourself with two irregularly shaped pieces of wood).
