This feature consisting of a semi-circled wall is located at the eastern end of the loop road surrounding the monument. The Okinawa website calls it the Nakagusuku Shrine, after a "castle" in the village of Nakagusuku (on Okinawa Island), that has a similar outline, see picture 3. The term "castle" is probably the traditional one, but one can argue about this descriptive term. Looking at this picture, a ceremonial purpose looks more likely.
